Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece was crafted in Elgin, Illinois and completed in 1899. It houses Elgin's 15-jewel Grade 191 movement—an exceptionally rare caliber produced for just two years between 1899 and 1900. The movement features 15 jewels, a safety barrel, and distinctive brass settings over the ratchet and center wheels. Each movement component was carefully refinished with heat-blued accents on the screws and hardware, achieved through precise hand-thermal treatment—a traditional watchmaking technique that enhances both corrosion resistance and visual appeal. The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand-polished to restore their original golden luster—the result is truly breathtaking in person. The hands were restored to their original heat-blued hue using the same thermal coloring technique. The metal Elgin dial features a rare Masonic design, with golden elements that shimmer in changing light. The blued hands offer bold contrast against the dial. This watch is housed in its original 25-year gold-filled case with hinged bezels and a dust cover, designed to protect the movement from dust and debris. It comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
