Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Waltham timepiece was crafted in Waltham, Massachusetts, and completed in 1892. It houses Waltham’s proprietary 17-jewel Grade S, a high-end, short-run movement produced only from 1891 to 1897. The movement showcases 17 jewels, an exposed mainspring barrel plated in gold, and stunning damaskeening. The movement components retain their original golden accents and were carefully cleaned to restore their original sheen. The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand-polished, restoring their rich golden luster. The watch hands have been restored using traditional thermal coloring, a precise hand-applied technique that enhances both visual appeal and corrosion resistance. The Waltham dial, made of porcelain enamel, is in flawless condition, free of chips or cracks. The heat-blued hands provide exceptional contrast against the white of the dial.
The timepiece is housed in a surgical-grade 316L stainless steel conversion case with a 40 mm diameter—offering one of the best fits for any conversion available. The case includes both caseback and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The watch comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
