Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece was crafted in Elgin, Illinois, and dates to 1900. It is powered by Elgin's in-house 21-jewel Grade 236 movement, an ultra-rare caliber produced for only one year in 1900. Just 2,000 examples of this movement were made. The movement features 21 jewels, raised 14 karat gold jewel settings, a safety barrel, and striped damaskeening. The movement has been restored and custom refinished with striking blue accents, achieved by thermally coloring movement components by hand. The Louis XIV fancy hands have not been restored and are in their original golden color. The porcelain-enamel Elgin dial is in near-perfect condition, showcasing refined Roman numerals. A delicate blue hue graces the center of the dial, encircled by elegant golden detailing, while additional golden motifs along the edge enhance the timepiece's sophisticated aesthetic.
The timepiece is encased in a 316L stainless steel wristwatch conversion case, designed with adjustable lugs for ease in winding and setting, ensuring a tailored fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before participating in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your upcoming adventures. Because of our dedication to preserving history, the original 14 karat gold filled pocket watch case will be included as well.
