Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece was manufactured in Elgin, Illinois, and was finished in 1940. It is driven by Elgin's proprietary 15-jewel Grade 315 movement, produced by Elgin from 1904 to 1940. The movement boasts 15 jewels, brass jewel settings, and beautiful damaskeening. The movement has been restored and custom-refinished with distinctive blue accents. These accents were achieved by thermally treating each movement part by hand to impart a blue hue to the iron-based components. The blue hands are original and have not been restored, while the brass jewel settings have been cleaned to reveal their original golden sheen. The Elgin dial is made of exquisite porcelain-enamel and remains in excellent condition. This dial features an intricate fancy pattern that shifts and shimmers, revealing different facets of its beauty depending on how the light strikes it. The dial does have a hairline crack down the center but is otherwise in excellent condition, void of any chips.
The timepiece is housed in a 316L stainless steel wristwatch conversion case, featuring adjustable lugs for convenient winding and setting, ensuring a custom fit for different wrist sizes. The case is equipped with front, back, and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, although it is advised to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece is fully serviced and ready for your next adventures.
