Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece was manufactured in Elgin, Illinois, and was finished in 1938. It is driven by Elgin's proprietary 15-jewel Grade 315 movement, a flagship model produced by Elgin from 1904 to 1940. The movement boasts 15 jewels, intricately adorned ratchet and crown wheels, and exquisite damaskeening. The movement has been meticulously restored and custom-refinished with distinctive blue accents. These accents were achieved by manually thermally treating each movement part, imparting a blue hue to the iron-based components. The original gold color of the hands remains untouched, while the brass jewel settings have been cleaned to reveal their original golden sheen.
The Elgin dial, fashioned in the Masonic style, is made of metal and is new-old stock, accompanied by the original 'Masonic' dial packaging from the Elgin factory. Encased in a newly designed silver-colored wristwatch conversion case, this timepiece ensures comfortable wear with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, catering to various wrist sizes for a more personalized fit. The case, featuring front, back, and crown gaskets, provides water resistance up to 50 meters, although it is advisable to remove the watch before engaging in water activities.
