Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece, crafted in Elgin, Illinois, was finished in 1900. Its mechanism is driven by Elgin's proprietary 19-jewel Grade 193 movement, regarded as one of the most sophisticated 12s movements ever manufactured by Elgin between 1898 and 1914. The movement boasts 19 jewels, a jeweled motor barrel, an intricate balance design, and exquisite damaskeening. The movement has been custom-refinished with blue accents achieved through the thermal treatment of each component by hand. The original heat blued hands remain unrestored in their manufactured condition. The jewel settings are crafted from 14-karat gold, and the golden enamel lettering is original to when the movement was manufactured. The porcelain-enamel Elgin dial is in excellent condition, is double sunk, and features bold Arabic numerals in the railroad grade style.
Encased in a newly designed silver-colored wristwatch conversion case, this timepiece ensures comfortable wear with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, providing a more tailored fit for wrists of various sizes. The case, equipped with front, back, and crown gaskets, offers water resistance up to 50 meters, although it is advisable to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. Having undergone thorough servicing, this timepiece is ready for your upcoming adventure.
