Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece, crafted in Elgin, Illinois, was finished in 1934. It is driven by Elgin's proprietary 19-jewel Grade 491 movement, which was only manufactured between 1933 to 1940 with just 7,000 produced. The movement boasts beautiful ratchet and crown wheel decorations, an intricate balance regulator, and striped damaskeening. The movement has been custom-refinished with blue accents achieved through the thermal treatment of each movement part by hand. The original blue steel hands remain unrestored in their manufactured condition. The jewel settings are raised and have been restored to their original golden color, and the black enamel lettering was restored by hand. The Elgin dial is metal and is in a unique salmon color with applied indices. The steel blue hands look absolutely stunning against the dial.
The timepiece is cased in a newly designed silver-colored wristwatch conversion case, ensuring comfortable wear with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting while also providing a more tailored fit for wrists of various sizes. The case is equipped with front and back gaskets to help keep dust and debris away from the movement. Having undergone thorough servicing, this timepiece is ready for your upcoming adventures. Because of our dedication to history, the original art deco case will be included as well.
