Hamilton Watch Co. was in operation from 1892-1969 and manufactured some of the highest end, most accurate watches ever produced. Manufacturing of Hamilton watches took place at their facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
This Hamilton timepiece was crafted in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and completed in 1936. It is powered by the 917 grade—a 17-jewel in-house movement produced between 1936 and 1954. This particular example comes from the first production run during the inaugural year and bears a serial number under 10,000, making it one of the first 10,000 ever manufactured. With a total production of 205,500 units, 917 movements with serial numbers below 10,000 are exceptionally rare. This piece also retains its original pocket watch case, preserving the historical legacy of the timepiece as a whole. Movement components were carefully refinished with stylish blue accents on the screws and hardware using precise hand-applied thermal treatment—a traditional watchmaking technique that enhances both corrosion resistance and visual appeal. The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand-polished to restore their original golden luster and sheen. The watch hands remain in their original heat-blued state and have not been restored. The dial is in good condition, featuring bold painted numerals that remain highly legible. The blued hands provide excellent contrast against the dial for easy readability.
The timepiece is housed in a new surgical grade 316L stainless steel conversion case, designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case is equipped with front, back, and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, although we recommend removing the watch before water activities. The watch is fully serviced and ready for your upcoming adventures. Because of our dedication to preserving history, this piece comes with the original Hamilton branded 10 karat gold filled pocket watch case.
