The Burlington Watch Co. was a subsidiary of the Illinois Watch Co., which was in operation from 1869-1948 and produced some of the best railroad-grade movements ever manufactured. Burlington watches were produced by Illinois in their factory in Springfield, Illinois and the company was headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
This Burlington watch, crafted in Springfield, Illinois, was completed in 1915. It operates on a sophisticated 19-jewel movement, manufactured from 1911 to 1926 in Springfield, Illinois in a partnership with the Illinois Watch Company. The movement is in outstanding condition and has been uniquely refinished with blue accents, achieved by thermally heating each component by hand to color the iron-based parts. The jewel settings have been restored to their initial brilliant golden hue, while the watch plates have been meticulously restored to their original silver appearance. The hands have also been restored using the same thermal treatment process. The dial is porcelain-enamel and in near flawless condition. The dial is in the classical railroad style with minutes marks on the perimeter, which is called a ‘Montgomery Dial’. This type of dial is the epitome of the railroad era and highly sought after by collectors.
This timepiece is cased in a newly designed silver-colored wristwatch conversion case, ensuring comfortable wear with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting while also providing a more tailored fit for wrists of various sizes. The case, equipped with front, back, and crown gaskets, offers water resistance up to 50 meters, although it is advisable to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. Having undergone servicing, this timepiece is ready for your upcoming adventures. Because of our dedication to preserving history, the original 14 karat gold filled pocket watch case with the inscription “Burlington Watch Co / Gold Filled / Chicago, USA” will be included as well.
